King of Hearts costume for Carnival

Bespoke costume - A full collaboration with the client who is a dancer and needed to travel to Trinidad with the costume. He had a long wish-list of themes and figured out a way to incorporate most of them. We also decided to create it separate parts so that it could travel with ease. The components include:

  • Crown and cuffs with feather plumes

  • Removable feather collar with jewels

  • Custom vest with jeweled and beaded accents

  • Reversible, 2-color “slashed” trousers

Fiber Optic Evening Gown with hinged Aluminum Corset

Bespoke costume for a client who was attending a special evening event in the technology industry. The silk-backed fiber optic material glows when light passes through the vertical, fiber optic threads. Small batteries are concealed in the hem.

I wanted it to look figure-flattering in both light and dark settings despite the rigidity of the technical fabric. I developed an unusual way to manipulate the material so that it hugs curves. I also created a corset out of metal to prevent light from passing through it when she was outside.

The shape of the corset is inspired by the waist ties of classic Greek gowns: Components include:

  • Silk backed and lined fiber optic fabric

  • Gold anodized and annealed aluminum.

  • Custom shaped, sanded and fitted with a custom hinge and zipper

Get*Away From ME! Dress

This was a collaboration with artist Kurt Bigenho for a day-long art event in Toronto. The concept was to create a dress that can inflate and deflate at will. Essentially to force people to step away (his concept).

The curvy pod shapes were inspired from seaweed. The neckline crosses in the front with a keyhole.

We created “air bladders” inside of the two pods extending from the each side of the mini dress. Internal rubber tubes lead from the air tank to the bladders.

While preforming, the model triggers the air release with the red handle on her right allowing the air tank on her back to inflate the pods. This action was designed to force people to step away from her.

Materials: Rip-stop nylon, canvas, plastic sheeting, rubber tubing and assorted metal fittings.
